Declared by the National Commission for Culture and Arts and the National Historical Institute as a National Treasure, the San Joaquin Church does not fail to impress those who visit its revered and hallowed halls. Constructed in 1869 out of adobe, coral stones and limestones, what makes this church unique is the Bas Relief Masterpiece entitled "Rendicion de Tetuan" in its facade.
Is is said that when the church was still under construction, news came to this small town that the Spanish Armada defeated the Moors at the Battle of Tetuan. Overjoyed, the Parish Priest asked the church builders to celebrate the victory by depicting the battle in the church's facade.
